THE bonnet of a 30-year-old classic car was crushed and crumpled - and the driver’s passenger had to be taken to hospital - following a collision with a double decker bus in Sheffield.

The shiny red DAF 33 - a Dutch designed car made from 1967 to 1974 - collided with the back of a Stagecoach bus on London Road, outside the Radhuni Indian restaurant.

Police said the driver, a man in his 80s, was uninjured in the crash - but his elderly female passenger went to the Northern General Hospital for a check-up.

Police were called to the scene to investigate after the smash was reported to emergency services at 10.15am on Friday.

The DAF 33 evolved from the DAF 600, first manufactured in 1958 by the DAF company of Eindhoven, in the Netherlands.
