A SHEFFIELD GP is gearing up for his biggest bike ride for charity.

Dr Jez McCole, aged 35, a partner at Gleadless Medical Centre, is training for a 300 mile cycle ride from London to Paris in aid of children’s charity Action Medical Research, starting on July 20.

He turned to cycling five years ago as an alternative to the car and to improve his health and fitness, and he has already tackled 100 mile rides across the Peak District and 250 miles from the east to the west coast of England.

Dr McCole, who has diabetes, said: “I’m well prepared but will need to stop regularly on route to check my blood sugar levels.”

He hopes to raise up to £2,000.
