The Sheffield Oratorio Chorus Chamber Choir makes its debut at St Marie’s Cathedral on Saturday
Drawn from the membership of the Chorus, it will be performing a sequence of Renaissance music including Palestrina’s Missa Aeterna Christi Munera and motets by Byrd and Vittoria.
SOC chair Lydia Fielder-Lord said: “The creation of a chamber choir is the latest in a series of developments that the Oratorio Chorus is making. We held a highly successful open workshop day last September when we invited the public to join us in rehearsing and performing Faure’s Requiem. We have also introduced an ‘Academy’ run by our Musical Director and Voice Coach, which allows our singers and members of the public to attend classes on singing technique and musicianship. The chamber choir will give our singers the chance to take on a different musical repertoire in a smaller group, and in doing so develop their singing technique.”
The full Chorus will also be taking part in the concert, performing Finzi’s Lo, the Full Final Sacrifice and Bob Chilcott’s Canticles of Light.
