THERE’S no real secret to a long and happy marriage, according to Bill Fisher.
He reckons: “It’s simple really. All you need to do is do what she says.”
And he should know, having been married to Sally for 60 years.
The diamond couple met by chance at the Weston Picture House in St Phillips Road, Netherthorpe, where a cowboy film was showing.
Bill asked Sally out, their relationship blossomed – and aged just 19 the couple tied the knot at nearby St George’s Church also in St Philips Road.
Now aged 79, retired tool fitter Bill and former drill fluter Sally celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary twice over.
First they were joined by fellow residents at the Manor House complex in Stannington, where they have lived for the past six years.
And then they were joined by relatives – children Stephen, Mark and Pauline, and their four grand children – for a slap-up family meal.
