Barnsley cricket legend Dickie Bird received his likeness from one of his biggest fans - Kathryn Davenport.

Kathryn, aged 60, who has been painting for only five years, is gaining a huge following among her own personal heroes.

She handed a painting to Dickie, who received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List, and while he’ll be keeping the original a limited number of prints will be sold to raise funds for the Dickie Bird Foundation.

The organisation helps disadvantaged young people participate in sport.

Former umpire Dickie said: “I think it’s magnificent. Kathryn gave me the painting and I was overwhelmed. What a smashing portrait it is.”

Kathryn said: “I love cricket and Dickie is lovely. He was over the moon.”
