Volunteers at a Sheffield sports club were able to brighten up their facilities with a lick of paint – thanks to a generous donation.

Sheffield Transport Sports Club, on Greenhill Main Road, received paint and materials from Dulux Decorator Centres, on Queens Road, which allowed them to not only give the building a new look but also create a bright new mural, too.

The sports club, a not for profit organisation, offering affordable sports facilities to people of all ages, was bowled over by the paint donation.

Volunteers and some club members decided to engage local mural artist Graeme Ross-Atkinson to set about designing a fitting mural, depicting a vintage bus full of sportsmen and women off to play, which would brighten up the club and bring colour to the facilities.

The donation was made as part of Dulux Decorator Centres’ Colouring the Community scheme, after the manager at the sports club contacted the company. The scheme aims to help local groups and charities restore their premises, community centres and surrounding areas.

Volunteers and sports club members rolled up their sleeves for the day and got stuck in, removing old plaster from the walls, before applying thick masonry paint as a base. Graeme then combined red, brown, white and cream to really give the facilities some energy.

Sheffield Transport Sports Club manager Caroline Johnson said: “Parts of the building have been crying out for a lick of paint for some time.”

Margaret Theaker, manager at Dulux Decorator Centres’ Sheffield store, said: “The Sheffield Transport Sports Club is a well respected organisation, offering facilities for sport to the community.

“The mural that now covers the exterior wall is so vibrant and I have no doubt that visitors will be impressed.”
