Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has welcomed plans to build a second University Technical College in Sheffield.
The UTC specialising in human sciences and digital technologies is due to open on the site of the former Don Valley Stadium in September 2016.
The Sheffield Hallam MP said it would train young people in the skills needed for the sports science, health and digital technology sectors.
“I was immensely proud that Sheffield was one of the first places in the UK to benefit from a new UTC,” he said.
“So it’s great news that we are set to see yet another outstanding institution which will play a key role in helping up to 600 young people a year learn the skills they need to gain a good job and get on in life.
“Looking at the organisations involved I know this UTC will be another outstanding success. This is yet another example of how we are rebalancing the economy and backing Sheffield to become the economic powerhouse it deserves to be.”
The new project is sponsored by Sheffield College and Sheffield Hallam University and employer partners include Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust and Boeing’s Advance Manufacturing Research Centre.
