Crime scene experiments as youngsters try science

Extracting DNA from strawberries and crime scene evaluation are the experiments on offer at a workshop next weekend.

Sheffield Hallam University is hosting an afternoon of science and engineering activities on Saturday, March 15, for children and adults.

Other experiments at the HUBS students’ union building include testing how far jelly sweets will stretch and detetecting radioactivity using an iPad.

Prof Nicola Woodroofe, head of the university’s biomedical research centre, said: “The university offers a range of courses around science and engineering and we wanted to give members of the public a behind-the-scenes look at what we do on a daily basis.”
