Meetings discuss how to return wildlife to former South Yorkshire colliery sites

Communities in Barnsley and Doncaster are invited to free events to find out more about work to return wildlife to former colliery sites.

Scientists in the Stockholm environment institute at York University are running the events at three locations across the Dearne Valley.

The events take place at New Park Springs, Grimethorpe today, at Phoenix Park, Thurnscoe on Thursday, and the former Cadeby Colliery, Conisbrough on Thursday, August 14. All the meetings run from 4pm until 8pm.

Dr Rachel Pateman, community scientist, said: “These will be fun events for all the family.

“The aim is for people to tell us about the history of these sites, to explore the wildlife on them and to look at the links between the two.”
