A SHEFFIELD independent school can press ahead with a controversial scheme for a new nursery.
Planning permission was granted for the replacement of an existing nursery at Mylnhurst School, off Button Hill, Ecclesall, after changes were made three times to meet the concerns of the council and nearby residents.
The latest proposals prompted 21 letters of objection and three petitions with a total of 224 names.
Critics said the new building would be too close to properties in Woodholm Road and warned of parking problems.
There were 54 letters of support for the school for a nursery that would be 35% bigger than the existing one.
Councillors followed the advice of their officers after visiting the site. A council report said: “It is acknowledged that there are issues relating to on-street parking around the school, but this cannot be attributed to this proposal.
“There would be very little additional traffic associated with the proposal,”
