PLANS have been drawn up to extend Norfolk Park student village.
A total of 72 en-suite bedrooms are being proposed for students and young professionals as part of a four-storey development off Norfolk Park Road.
Already 700 residents live in shared houses and flats at the village, which dates from the 1970s and which Sheffield Hallam University sold to city-based Oak Estates.
The scheme has been submitted for the approval of the council, which will assess the impact on the neighbouring conservation area and Norfolk Heritage Park.
Consultants for the applicants says the site is within easy reach of universities, colleges and work opportunities. “The proposals set out to achieve additional accommodation and to aid security at the main entrance while sympathetically considering the sensitive nature of the location.”
One neighbour is telling the council she is concerned the proposed expansion could exacerbate parking problems on Granville Road and Stafford Road and lead to the loss of trees.
