WORK has started on a £22m project to rebuild Bradfield School.

The revamped campus at Worrall is due for completion by the summer of 2013, with Vinci Construction carrying out the contract while existing buildings are used.

Regional director Keith Shivers said: ‘Our prime concern on this significant new project will be to ensure that all of our demolition and construction works are co-ordinated with the school to minimise any disruption to pupils and staff.”

The new school has been designed to blend with its rural location and to have a minimal carbon footprint.

It will have a sports hall, fitness studio and a large main hall that will also be available to the community.

Assistant head Keith Holmes said: “The existing school was built in 1959 and was designed for less than half the students that are at present on role.

“As a result, temporary accommodation has been utilised over the years and, whilst the school has been keen to adopt new technologies which aid teaching and learning, these have been added to the existing building rather than built into it as an inherent part of its design.”

He added: “We are all excited at the opportunities of teaching and learning in the new school.”
