School launches £15,000 bid to go solar

Hunters Bar Infant School is embarking on its most ambitious fundraising campaign to date - to raise £15,000 within a year for solar panels on the roof.

Already renowned for environmental achievements, it has now become the first school in South Yorkshire to join a national initiative, Solar Schools.

Michelle Hayes, headteacher of the Sharrowvale Road school, said the project will “help to inspire and educate our pupils even more about renewable energy and the money saved by our solar panels will be re-invested to support their future learning”.

‘Virtual’ solar tiles can be bought for a minimum of £5 by visiting www.solarschools.org.uk/huntersbar.
