Celebrations were held at Nether Edge Primary School after it was told it was one was of the top 250 schools in the country.
Ten years ago there was a real threat of closure due to falling numbers. Now Schools Minister David Laws has described it as “exceptionally effective”.
The school threw open its doors to the community last Friday, and among visitors were local MP Paul Blomfield, Lord Mayor Vickie Priestley and former pupils. Current pupils gave performances of dancing and singing and a cornet concert.
Headteacher Michele Nott, said: “We are so very proud of our children, their parents and all the staff that work here. It is such a great achievement. We put it down to having consistently high expectations of what we can achieve – and we do!”
Mr Blomfield said: “It is an extraordinary achievement.”
