South Yorkshire primary schools are being urged to sign up for a free access all areas tour of Yorkshire Water’s state of the art water treatment site at Ewden.
Tours for nine to 11-year-olds are available during the autumn term at the north Sheffield plant, which has its own education centre.
Last year all the slots were rapidly booked with over 1,000 pupils going on the visit, which explains how water passes through a cycle from source to tap.
The Ewden plant supplies water to almost five million people in the region every day and youngsters can see how water comes in from the area’s reservoirs, is treated and is then sent out to Sheffield homes.
The education centre has been developed with help of teachers to include important core subjects.
