THE UK’s first Professor of Playful Learning has been drafted in to oversee a review of services to Sheffield’s under-fives.

Prof Pat Broadhead – a specialist with Leeds Metropolitan University – has been appointed as voluntary Early Years Champion, working with Sheffield City Council.

She said: “My role is about promoting the rights of young children to access high quality early years provision across the city and to make sure we listen to them in terms of how we define and maintain that quality. I would also want to put high quality access to play and learning on that agenda. Play contributes to all aspects of development and it is something I firmly believe in.”
