A Sheffield principal is set to take charge of a second academy in Lincolnshire – but is insisting students at his city secondary will not suffer.

Parkwood Academy principal Mike Westerdale is to take on a leading management role at Trent Valley Academy in Gainsborough, which is run by the same sponsor E-ACT.

The Shirecliffe school had disappointing GCSE results last month, with its pass rate falling from 47 to 41 per cent.

Mr Westerdale said: “I would like to assure students and parents at Parkwood that the standard of leadership and the quality of education at the academy will not be affected by these changes. I am 100 per cent confident in the leadership at Parkwood, we’ve extended the team and ensured the right planning and successions are in place to continue on our journey to ‘outstanding’.”

Mr Westerdale said E-ACT wanted the Parkwood model of leadership to be replicated at Trent Valley.

His deputy principal at Parkwood, Vicky Simcock, will also move to Gainsborough to become head of school.

Mr Westerdale will oversee strategic developments across both academies.

An E-ACT spokesman said Parkwood had been improving and had enjoyed exceptional leadership, highlighted in both the Ofsted inspection last year and more recently in a review of effectiveness by an external education consultant.

The spokesman added: “The changes will also provide additional opportunities for staff and students.”
