Stanage casualties flown to hospital

EDALE mountain rescue team was called to three climbing accidents at Stanage Edge near Hathersage in four days.

Members found a man with a broken ankle in the first incident, on Wednesday night last week. They made him more comfortable before carrying him by stretcher to an air ambulance which took him to the Northern General Hospital.

Last Saturday morning, they helped a climber who had fallen around 25ft and had broken both wrists and was complaining of back pain. He was also flown to hospital, where he was found to be also suffering from a fractured vertebra.

A little later the team was called back to an accident near to the previous one. The climber, with back and chest pains as well as cuts and bruises, was another casualty for the Northern General.
