Support staff who helped to turn around the fortunes of a Sheffield school are facing the axe.
Sheffield Park Academy has today launched consultation on a re-structure which would see 33 teaching assistants, receptionists and other employees lose their jobs. Dismissal notices could be served by April 1.
This comes just months after the struggling school - run by the United Learning Trust - celebrated its best ever GCSE results after years of below-average results.
Headteacher Craig Dillon claims the academy is currently ‘overstaffed’.
Union GMB is recommending strike action over proposals.
Sheffield branch leader Peter Davies said: “They’ve tried to keep this quiet and come out with this re-structure. Rather than congratulating staff for their hard work this is the thanks they get.”
