HATHERSAGE-based comedian Rob Rouse is preparing to grin and bear it for the sake of Oxfam.
As well as getting ready for a national tour in May, the Sheffield University graduate is training for a 100km non-stop walk, the equivalent of two-and-a-half marathons, up and down the Yorkshire Dales.
Trailtrekker 2011 in aid of Oxfam has to be completed within 30 hours.
“I did the challenge in 2009 and loved it, even though it was excrutiating,” said Rob, aged 37. “I’ve just about recovered enough to attempt it again this year.”
He said he will be part of “a crack team of maverick athletes, all of them seasoned ‘talks a good game types’ with something to prove, like me, to their ageing selves that they’ve still got it physically”.
The challenge is on June 4 and 5 before Rob’s show, The Great Escape, arrives at the Memorial Hall in Sheffield on June 7.
“I’ll try and get to each town early enough to have a good walk round it or up any nearby hills,” he said. “And take the stairs everywhere.”
