A LINK road can be built between Robin Hood Airport and junction 3 of the M18 as a result of £18m from the Government, it was announced this week.
The scheme will create better connections with the motorway network and is expected to make the airport a more attractive proposition for route and freight development and to unlock land for investment.
The £18m grant from the new Regional Growth Fund is the largest made to any local authority.
Mayor Peter Davies said: “This is the best news we have had for a long time and will transform Doncaster from being depicted as a disadvantaged town into one able to take advantage of all its natural assets and transport links to be a gateway to this country.”
However, Sheffield South East MP Clive Betts said: “It is amazing that not a single bid from a Sheffield company has been successful in securing support from the Regional Growth Fund.”
He added: “It’s another kick in the teeth for Sheffield businesses and entrepreneurs.”
