IT’S a jungle out there - verges on Sheffield streets have been growing knee-high as Sheffield Council bosses say they have been unable to get their mowers out and about due to the wet weather.
Council staff are now working to deal with the backlog.
Stephen Rich, Greenhill and Bradway Tenants’ and Residents’ Association secretary, said: “All over Sheffield, the verges are a mess. The grass is up to 2ft deep in our area.
“It is the same in other areas and the problem is the top talking point at meetings between tenants’ groups.
“The council is refusing to take on extra temporary staff to deal with the backlog.”
The council has apologised for the grass-cutting delay.
A spokesman said: “We are experiencing difficulties due to extreme wet weather which has coincided with the main grass growing period.
“The weather has delayed and interrupted our grass cutting rotas, but we are working to improve the situation.”
