PLANS for a small park next to the River Don in Sheffield city centre have been approved by councillors.
A Government-funded scheme will create a grassed terrace next Nursery Street, where visitors can enjoy the river, with platforms for fishing and canoeing.
But one of the main aims is create an overspill area in the event of flooding. Roads and businesses around the Wicker were deluged in the floods of summer 2007.
Cabinet member Leigh Bramall said: “The park will provide the first opportunity within the city centre to get down to water level and experience the much cleaned-up and wildlife-rich river.”
