A PEDESTRIAN crossing is being planned on Sheffield’s inner relief road for the benefit of staff in a new office block.
Council highways officers have calculated only a minimal delay for traffic – adding up to 15 seconds from Bridgehouses to the Parkway and Park Square during the morning rush hour – if the traffic light-controlled crossing is installed on Derek Dooley Way. Capita Hartshead, whose employees cross the road, has offered to meet the costs.
A council report today (Thursday) says a balance has to be made between potential safety concerns and the impact on traffic.
The traffic effects would be monitored and, if problems were found, the lights could be changed so that pedestrians do not cross so often.
