Sheffield underlines its reputation for parks, woods and countryside with a series of organised walks starting on Saturday.
‘Walk Sheffield - Explore and Discover’ offers guided walks of six to eight miles during the day and shorter evening walks.
Organised by Sheffield Walking Forum, and continuing until the following weekend, the theme of this year’s event is Sheffield’s green spaces.
Activities start on Saturday with a walk in the Limb Valley and on Houndkirk Moor, starting at 10.30am from Dore and Totley railway station and led by naturalist Nabil Abbas.
Other walks, which are free, include Wadsley and Loxley Commons, Stocksbridge, Concord Park and Woolley Wood, Stannington, the Botanical Gardens, Norfolk Park and Manor Fields. Details: www.sheffield.gov.uk/walking.
The week follows the successful ‘Spirit of Kinder’ event at the town hall last Saturday, which celebrated local moorland heritage and the Peak District.
