LAST year was the wettest ever in Sheffield, figures from the Weston Park weather station have confirmed.
There was over 1130mm of rainfall, breaking the 2000 record by 45mm. Yet January, February and March were each drier, sunnier and warmer than average.
A total of 156 ‘wet days’ was recorded - one day short of the all-time record set in 1912 and matched in 1960.
Alistair McLean, curator of Natural Science, Museums Sheffield, said: “Last year saw the 130th anniversary of Weston Park Weather Station, so it was only fitting that it should break an all-time annual record.
“It’s a shame that this had to be for the wettest year!”
