CAMPAIGNERS from across the country gathered in Sheffield for an event calling for the independence of South Yemen.
The event at Fir Vale School was attended by councillors Jackie Drayton, Ibrah Hussain and Mahroof Hussain.
Calls for South Yemen to secede from the north of the country have been increasing over the last five years.
Young people at the Sheffield event read poetry and sang their national song in solidarity with South Yemeni people.
Organiser Fakhary Amerie said there was no quarrel with the ordinary citizens of North Yemen, who were their ‘brothers and sisters’.
He said: “Our struggle is with the northern occupying government and no one else.
“Our people will achieve their freedom and independence through their peaceful movement in the south.”
