Doub7e Seven Events is celebrating ten years in the events and entertainment industry by hosting a public event in Sheffield city centre on Saturday.
It will be a showcase of Doub7e Seven acts including party band Northern Xposure, magicians Thomas Anthony and Tom Wright, Zip mime act, Strings and Reels ceilidh band, a Caribbean steel band, stilt walkers. costume street performers, caricaturists and other interactive entertainers.
Executive Director Roop Mullins will be offering advice on ideas and inspiration for events or entertainment as well as DJ’ing for the day.
There will also be the chance to vote in a Made in Sheffield song competition, rodeo bull, free popcorn and candy floss at the event in Barker’s Pool from 10am to 5pm on Saturday. Part of Sheffield City Council’s Summer Saturdays programme, it is supporting Weston Park Hospital Charity.
Rony Robinson selected a pencil sketch by James Coates as the winner of the Portrait of Distinction competition at Art in the Gardens last weekend. ”I chose a small black and white picture that sort of flattered me,” joked the writer and broadcaster. Second place went to Martyn Rotherham and third Diane Sanderson.

Organiser Sharon Gill said people had remarked on the improved quality of the art works in the Open Show and across the event generally, the standard of artistic skill being high.
Industrial designer Steven Anwar will bring an air of calm to the Designjunction event as part of the 2013 London Design Festival as he launches a range furniture objects and homewares influenced by his use of meditation.
Project: OM is a new collection of work including OM hooks’ a family of (O)versized (M)ultifunctional coat hooks that can be configured to create unique yet practical wall clusters or constellations and the OM Rhythm, an experimental low-table fabricated from steel rod using braille as a hidden form of language to relay a sacred message resulting in a 3D structural representation of the sound vibration OM.
Anwar Studio, based in Sheffield, runs meditation workshops and classes alongside its design work and Steven Anwar will be doing likewise for the duration of Designjunction at The Sorting Office, New Oxford Street, from September 18-22.
John Lewis is celebrating half a century of being in Barkers Pool and Sheffield artist Joe Scarborough is marking 50 years in the art world. To mark their joint celebrations, Joe will be hosting an artist in residence slot in the department store’s ground floor Rural Luxe pop up shop, on Saturday from 10.30am to 1pm.
Said Joe: Joe said, “It will be a delight to have the opportunity to meet some of John Lewis’s customers and talk to them about the last 50 years. There are so very many happy stories of Sheffield people meeting, talking and shopping at the heart of the city. John Lewis is one of those with many memories from the Beatles performing in the City Hall opposite in 1963 to the 2012 Olympic gold painted letter box for Jessica Ennis-Hill.”
