Resilient Marjorie Senior is one of life’s great survivors.

She survived the Sheffield Blitz when a bomb fell through her parent’s home and battled back to health after having a leg amputated aged 95.

And Marjorie was surrounded by her adoring family when she celebrated her 100th birthday.

After her late husband Frank left for India during World War Two, Marjorie went to work in the old Middlewood Hospital and helped cared for injured soldiers, serving food.

She often told tales of wartime Sheffield – including the time a bomb fell through her parents’ home moments after the family had escaped to the air raid shelter.

Marjorie battled back after having her leg amputated in 2010, aged 95.

Daughter Jackie, 61, said: “After she had her leg amputated we thought as a family that she wouldn’t get better.

“She bounced back and it’s incredible, she’s so tough.”

Jackie added: “Mum is very family orientated and looks forward to everyone visiting.

“The celebration was wonderful, the home put on a little party with an entertainer and brought out a cake.

“Everyone made such a big fuss, mum loved being the centre of attention and she loved all her cards especially the one from the Queen.”

Marjorie was surrounded by her family on her big day – daughter Jackie, son-in-law John, 66, granddaughter Helena, 37, her husband Shaun, 44, great-granddaughter Sophie, 19 and grandson Lewis 15.
