Sheffield United fans got a chance to take a close look at their team just weeks before the start of the new season.

The club held an open training session at its Bramall Lane stadium, with several thousand fans taking advantage of the free entry and glorious weather.

Some lucky youngsters even got to take part in a match with the players, and even interview striker Billy Sharp and manager Chris Wilder.

Among the Blades fans were Jordan Lee and children McKenzie, eight, and Kiera, seven.

High Green resident Jordan, a season ticket holder, said: “I think it’s a good event. It encourages the kids to come and watch. We’ve been coming with the kids for three or four years. It’s a good club for families.”

Kiera said she was waiting to see how the summer signings did before picking a favourite player, but McKenzie quickly plumped for Scottish midfielder Stefan Scougall.

“I think we will do better this season,” he said.

Also there was Chaz Adams, from Oughtibridge, with wife Claire and two-year-old son Thomas, at Bramall Lane for the first time.

Chaz said: “It’s important to get him involved early - he’s got all the shirts.”

Blades manager Chris Wilder said: “These are our future fans as well as presents fans; it’s been a great morning and hopefully everyone enjoyed it.”
