A FORMER magistrate who juggled community work with fostering nine children has died.
Elsie Hebden, of Parson Cross, died aged 89. She had been a Sheffield magistrate from the early 1980s to the 90s, worked at a women’s refuge in Nether Edge and at a prisoners’ hostel in Walkley.
The dedicated member of the Liberal Democrats, whose late husband Bill was a party candidate, also fostered nine children with charity Barnados.
Son Shaun Davies, 50, of Nether Edge, said: “She loved being a magistrate and community work. She cared for us children over 50 years, being firm but fair. We all miss her.”
A funeral takes place at Grenoside Crematorium on January 18, 3.15pm.
