A missing dog who sparked a social media frenzy to find him was home for Christmas.

Finn the Field Spaniel went missing from Wyming Brook, near Lodge Moor in Sheffield, on November 27.

A Facebook group called FIND FINN gathered support from thousands of people and after several sightings the beloved pet was eventually found safe - and a bit smelly - on Christmas Eve in Newark.

A spokesman for Team Finn said: “Adventure over, time for home Finn and by the smell of him, a jolly good bath is in order too.

“We really can’t begin to thank you enough for your support.

“We still don’t have the whole story, and expect it will be after Christmas until we do. As always, we’ll keep you posted.”

Finn’s owner, Marjorie Matthews, who lives in Carlisle in Cumbria, had sent Finn to stay with a relative in Sheffield while she went for a hospital visit. But nine-year-old Finn disappeared while he was out with a dog walker.

The spokesman said: “I’m sure you’ll appreciate he wants to be home with his mum as soon as possible in Carlisle.

“He’d like to invite you to Rivelin Park Cafe anytime between 11am to 12 noon on Boxing Day to say thank you for looking, supporting and being absolute superstars.”
