BLADES’ stars Dave Kitson and Tony McMahon helped kick off a new specialist disability fitness faciiity for people with autism, learning disabilities and mental health problems in Sheffield.

The players attended the launch of Access Fitness, a partnership between Autism Plus, Sheffield United Community Foundation and Sheffield International Venues at Concord Sports Centre.

Access Fitness is located within the Wellness Centre at Concord and is an open and fully accessible area.

It has all the latest equipment donated by Sheffield United FC.

The space has been designed to be user-friendly and easy to get around with colour coded footprints and equipment and adapted communication tools.

Beverley Seymour, operations manager at Autism Plus said: “Mainstream gyms are often intimidating to people with autism. We hope for many this will be the first step towards a healthier lifestyle.”
