Frank Hanson, aged 88, has notched up 1,000 walks with the Wednesday Rambling Group in Sheffield.
His first was in March 1990, the month after he retired. “I worked indoors for most of my working life so I enjoyed the walk and carried on with them from then on,” said Frank, a former block maker, of Charnock View Road, Gleadless.
Fellow rambler Peter Kettleborough, said: “He did a 10-and-a-half mile walk a couple of weeks ago. Some of us young ones can’t keep up with him. He is a tremendous bloke.”
The walkers meet every Wednesday morning, one group doing 10 to 11 miles, the other six to seven.
