Four Sheffield pals paid a much-needed visit to the barber’s – after not shaving or drinking alcohol for a month in the name of charity.

Martyn Askew, John Crutchley, Paul Burton and Terry Chambers came up with the idea in support of John’s wife, Ginny, who had signed up for a charity cycle challenge.

Funeral director Martyn, aged 56, from Woodseats, said: “We have been friends for many years and decided on this madcap scheme that we wouldn’t shave or have a drink in November.”

The men finally had their beards shaved and trimmed at Savills Barbers in Sheffield city centre. Ginny is cycling from London to Paris in April in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
