Fun for all the family promised at Sheffield gala event

ONE of Sheffield’s biggest annual events is set to be even bigger.

Beighton Gala and Fun Day attracted more than 5,000 visitors last year - and organisers are expecting even more this year.

It takes place on Saturday, July 14, at the Miners’ Welfare Recreation Ground, High Street, Beighton.

A parade of floats and dancing troupes will set off on a tour of the village from School Road at 11.30am.

And from about 1pm, the show will open when visitors can make their way around stacks of stalls selling all sorts from crafts to cakes.

Highlights at the fun day are set to include a tug-of-war featuring local pub teams, classic cars and bikes, Ferret Rescue, Punch and Judy, flyball, a land train, belly dancing, a raffle and donkey and pony rides.

Tracy Higginbotton, gala spokeswoman, said: “The aim of our gala is to provide a free, fun day full of entertainment for all of the family, while also providing different charities the opportunity to raise some money for many different worthy causes at no extra cost to them.”
