Fundraising campaign launched to pay for special Christmas party for Sheffield's lonely OAPs

The Better Together Project is hoping to organise the event to take place at Sheffield Town Hall on Friday, December 23, for older people who may be socially isolated.

Organisers hope to bring a full bill of live music, food and drink, plus transport to and from the venue.

However, they first need to raise about £1000 to make the event happen and are urging members of the public to get behind the campaign.

Sarah Bridge, of The Better Together Project, said: “Many elderly are alone at Christmas because their families are no longer in the community or spouses have passed away.

“Volunteers and donations are critical in ensuring that this event can go ahead. Local and national businesses including Tesco, Morrisons, Food Fusion, New Healthy Body, PJ Taste and Stagecoach Supertram have been very generous in donating raffle prizes, money, decorations, vouchers and food.

“We have also managed to gather approximately 80 presents for our elderly guests from people within the local community who have kindly contributed. However, we urgently need to raise over £1000 to cover entertainment, transport and catering costs.”
