A MUM who battled breast cancer has signed up to a charity walk to raise cash for the Sheffield hospital which treated her - after vowing to ‘live life to the fill’.

Anna Reid, a 46-year-old mum-of-two, was diagnosed three years ago and was treated at Weston Park Hospital.

To mark the anniversary of her diagnosis the learning support teacher, who works at Westbourne School, Broomhill, has signed up for the Light the Night 4.5km walk in Ecclesall Woods on Saturday, September 15, where participants will wear glow-in-the-dark costumes and carry torches.

Anna, from Woodseats, said: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and exactly three years to the day of my diagnosis I was on the internet and saw the cancer charity’s walk advertised, and so I decided to sign up.

“I never thought anything like that could happen to me, I was a fit and healthy non-smoking vegetarian – it was a massive shock.

“I had 15 consecutive days of radiotherapy at Weston Park, which was difficult but the staff there were so friendly they made it seem much less scary and put me at ease.

“They do a sterling job and it’s not until you get a serious illness you realise the amazing work people are doing. That’s stayed with me over the past three years so I thought I would sign up to the Light the Night walk.

“Now I think life is for living. Soon after I was told I was in recovery me and the kids decided to go abroad - now we have visited Barcelona, Amsterdam and Brussels.

“I go out a lot more with friends and into the countryside - I don’t waste my time sitting in the house. I definitely seize the day now.”

Sarah Cross, fundraiser for Weston Park, said: “Light the Night will be a magical experience for everyone and will bring together many amazing people like Anna, who are all raising money for a great cause in a magical setting.”
