Further fare increase for train passengers

Rail commuters in Sheffield face paying even more for their travel after new inflation figures revealed ticket costs could increase by 4.1 per cent.

Regulated fares - such as season tickets - will rise when new prices are announced from January.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said running the railways is a ‘very expensive business’, but added: “Nobody likes to see rail fares go up.” Campaigners claim fares have risen three times faster than wages in the last six years.
