HI-TECH gadgets are being used to protect water pipes in South Yorkshire this winter.
Technology which enables staff to remotely monitor and control what happens on the underground network, weather forecasting and targeted heating to prevent key pipes from freezing are just some of the methods used by Yorkshire Water.
Colder temperatures can increase the number of burst pipes, impacting on water supplies and then traffic as a result.
The technology, likened by firm chiefs to that in a Bond film, will help reduce those incidents.
Sam Pearson said: “Instead of Aston Martins we have specially adapted 4x4s for getting critical staff to and from work, and our telemetry gadgets mean we’re able to monitor and control exactly what is happening on our pipe network at any time.”
