Give needy kids 12,000 gifts - VIDEO

THOUSANDS of needy South Yorkshire children will wake on Christmas morning to find Santa hasn’t been this year – unless YOU help us to make their dreams come true.

That’s the grim but real message as The Star teams up again with Hallam FM and Magic AM to back the Cash For Kids Christmas Appeal.

Last year together we helped 9,434 local children to enjoy £330,190 worth of presents.

This year the aim is to smash that amount and find toys in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, as well as Chesterfield and the region for an estimated 12,000 children who will otherwise receive nothing.

That’s the number of referrals expected this year from social services and other official children’s organisations who are working closely with the appeal, to ensure the most needy young people get an appropriate parcel.

Hallam FM breakfast show presenter Big John today helped us to launch The Star’s involvement with the appeal for the third year.

He said it’s so easy to make a difference and bring cheer to thousands of children who will otherwise go without.

Simply buy another gift when you are out Christmas shopping, donate a toy that was unopened from last year - or make a cash donation.

New and unwrapped toys can be donated to the appeal and dropped off at any Asda store throughout the region, or at Meadowhall. Other drop-off centres will be posted online.

Gifts can also be taken direct to The Star city centre shop in York Street or the Hallam FM and Magic AM radio station at Radio House, Herries Road, Sheffield.

Or you can make a cash donation online - at hallamfm.co.uk and magicam.co.uk - where there are also details of how to text a donation.

Cash will be used to buy gifts for children, from babies to 17-year-olds.

Jeremy Clifford, Editor of The Star, said: “Together our readers and listeners of Hallam FM and Magic AM can make a huge difference for thousands of less fortunate children in our region - we can turn tears into laughter and make dreams come true on Christmas Day.

“So I would appeal to everyone to do the right thing and donate a gift or cash to help us provide for needy children this year.”

Big John added: “Last year we got enough toys to help 9,000 children. But it still wasn’t enough. This year we want enough gifts to help 12,000 kids - with the help of Star readers and listeners to Hallam FM and Magic AM.

“It’s hard to believe in South Yorkshire there’s so many children who are going to wake up on Christmas Day with absolutely nothing, unless we do something.

“Imagine writing a letter to Santa Claus and not getting anything.

“These kids are in that situation through no fault of their own.”

A major sponsor this year is P&A, business support practitioners offering turnaround, recovery and insolvency.

Nicola Farrell, Cash For Kids charity manager, praised The Star’s support and welcomed P&A on board, saying: “With this help thousands of underprivileged children right across South Yorkshire will receive something special on Christmas morning.”
