GRIEVING Sheffield mum Nicolette Williams thought miniature versions of her late son’s war medals from Iraq and Afghanistan had been lost forever.
But now she has been reunited with the precious mementoes by the Sheffield street cleaner who found them.
Nicolette, whose son, Senior Aircraftsman Christopher Bridge, aged 20, was killed in Afghanistan in 2007, greeted council worker Jim Lilleker with a hug as he handed them back.
Nicolette, who collected the medals from a council depot on Eyre Lane, in the city centre, said: “I thought the medals would never be found, I am so grateful. I am going to send Jim a big thank-you card with Christopher’s picture on it.”
The medals were lost when Nicolette wore them as she went around city bars collecting money for her appeal to build a war memorial at Shiregreen cemetery, where her son is buried.
