AN ARMY of eco-warriors on a mission to clear a beauty spot were given a helping hand from some special visitors.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Coun Colin Ross rolled up their sleeves at a clean-up at Beauchief Gardens.

Mr Clegg, Lib Dem MP for Sheffield MP, and Coun Ross, Sheffield Council Lib Dem member for Dore and Totley, joined the Friends of Millhouses Park, the group which stepped in to restore the gardens in the 1990s.

Mr Clegg said: “It is easy to take Sheffield’s many green and open spaces for granted, but it is worth remembering we only have these spots because of volunteers’ hard work across our city.

“They deserve our gratitude and there is no better way to show support than getting joining in.”

John Brighton, of the friends group, said: “It is always great to see people turn out to help.”
