Fatima Williams was rushed by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital with back pain - and minutes later gave birth to a baby boy with a single push.

The 39-year-old from Darnall - already a mother-of-three and a grandmother - had no idea she was pregnant. She thought she had put on weight, and only weeks earlier a GP said her stomach cramps were muscle spasms. “I was drinking alcohol all the way through the pregnancy because I didn’t know anything about it, and I took painkillers as well.”

Baby Mason, weighing 5lb 1oz at around 36 weeks, was moved to the Jessop and, six months on, is home with Fatima and partner, Dave Ahmer, 44.
