THE woman who led the NHS in developing screening programmes for cancer is to receive a second honorary doctorate within a year from the city she has called home for more than 30 years.

Prof Julietta Patnick CBE will receive her honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University in November after being honoured by the University of Sheffield.

As director of NHS cancer screening programmes, she has led the approach to the early detection of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer. She said: “Sheffield is a tremendous city and both its universities are playing their part in helping to improve cancer detection rates, so this award is of great pride to me.”
