A SOUTH Yorkshire optician travelled to Africa to help provide treatment to save the sight of people living in remote communities.
Jodi Beckton has just returned from Ethiopia where she worked with the Vision Aid Overseas charity offering much-needed eye-care to residents around the area of Butajira.
During the two-week visit Jodi, who works for Specsavers at Catcliffe, helped set up temporary outreach clinics in rural areas where more than 800 local people were tested and fitted for glasses.
The 34-year-old now hopes to return to the developing world and carry out more work with the charity.
Jodi said: “A large number of people in the developing world don’t have access to eye examinations or glasses and many find they are unable to work as a result of being deprived of a basic sense we often take for granted.
“By supporting Vision Aid Overseas we can help to provide access to eyecare in the developing world which is likely to improve many people’s lives dramatically.”
