A HEALTH clinic in Sheffield city centre was evacuated yesterday (Wednesday) after a man doused himself in white spirit and pulled out a lighter.
Staff were ushered out of the Central Health Clinic on the corner of Mulberry Street and Norfolk Street, next to the Crucible Theatre, at 1.30pm.
A man is thought to have been seeking help from the Crisis Resolution Team, an emergency mental health service staffed by psychiatrists, nurses and social workers, when the drama happened.
Police spoke to him for 20 minutes before he was brought out of the building and taken by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman confirmed that the man was “threatening self-harm” and that the incident had ended safely.
