A TEENAGER used pedal power to complete a 150-mile ride from coast to coast to raise money for charity.

Joe Havenhand, a sixth former at Henry Fanshawe School in Dronfield, raised more than £300 for St John Ambulance with the ride from Whitehaven on the west coast to Sunderland’s east coast.

The 17-year-old tackled the challenge with a group of family and friends and decided to raise money for the charity after taking a first aid course at school.

Joe said: “I’d been on a St John Ambulance first aid course as part of a sports coaching award at school and it really interested me. I was amazed at how easy it is to learn skills that could save someone’s life.”

Joe even had to put his first aid skills to good use during the trip when a member of his coast to coast group gashed his leg.
