Visitors to a Sheffield hospital can get advice and support about cancer at a new ‘information pod’ from next week.
The mobile stall, run by Macmillan Cancer Support, will be at the Northern General’s Brearley outpatients wing for two weeks from Monday, from 9.30am to 4pm.
Helen Kennedy, the charity’s lead cancer information and support specialist, said: “We wanted to make sure we go even further this year to get support into the heart of the community.
“We are now getting out and about more and can offer a variety of services depending on where we are going.
“We have a large range of free information leaflets for people to take away about all aspects of a cancer diagnosis and our information specialists are available to provide one to one confidential support.”
The ‘pod’ - a temporary structure featuring screens, notice boards and seating areas - will also be appearing at shopping centres in the coming months, as well as public events and exhibitions.
More than 7,300 people in South Yorkshire are diagnosed with cancer each year, according to the charity.
