Light up the night to raise funds for city cancer hospital

WALKERS are invited to light up the night - and raise money for Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

The charity is planning its first torchlit fundraising walk through the ancient Ecclesall woodlands.

The 4.5km walk, put together by Sheffield walking enthusiast and author Rob Haslam, will start and finish at the newly developed woodland discovery centre.

Rachel Thorpe, director of the Weston Park charity, said: “The discovery centre is a fabulous brand new facility and we are absolutely thrilled to be able to start and finish our walk there.

“The Ecclesall woodlands are stunningly beautiful and walking by torchlight will add an extra sense of mystery and mystique.

“We are pleased to be able to give all our entrants a free torch so they can light up the night in support of Weston Park, raising vital funds to help keep South Yorkshire families together longer.”

The charity is hoping to raise £35,000 at the event - which starts at 7pm on Saturday, September 15.

The funds will go towards the charity’s £1.68 million target for the year, to help run one of the country’s few dedicated cancer hospitals.
